From Data Maze to Data Marketplace: Air France – KLM’s Data Marketplace journey
Marjolein Daeter
Product Owner Data Management (Air France–KLM)
In the fast-moving and highly regulated aviation industry, data is critical for operational efficiency, customer experience, safety compliance, and strategic planning. Yet like many global airlines, Air France KLM faced fragmented data landscapes, siloed ownership, and inconsistent access across business units such as fleet management, network planning, revenue optimization, and ground operations.
To address these challenges, Air France KLM partnered with Datashift to build a central data marketplace that unifies data governance and access across the organization. Leveraging Collibra for data cataloguing and governance, and Google Cloud for scalable infrastructure, they created a platform that supports data discoverability, compliance, and cross-team collaboration.
This marketplace empowers the organization with self-service access to trusted data, improving data quality, reducing time spent searching for information, and enabling faster, better decisions across the value chain. It marks a major step in Air France KLM’s journey toward a truly data-driven airline, where data fuels both day-to-day operations and long-term innovation.
