Daan is a biomedical scientist turned professional poker player turned econometrician turned data scientist. In this last role he applied his expertise across various industries, including Financial Services, Energy and Retail. As a Data Science & Consulting, he has dedicated the past two years toward predicting flight punctuality and fuel consumption at KLM. When he is not trying to make sense of obscure data patterns, you can find him on an adventurous hike in the mountains, hanging off a bouldering wall, or stumbling across the salsa dancing floor.
Applying machine learning to enable the creation of robust and efficient flight schedules at KLM
Flint is a ML prediction platform for estimating flight punctuality and fuel consumption up to six months before flight departure. Being able to accurately estimate a flight’s performance this early in the process, enables the creators of the flight schedule to apply the limited slack in the most impactful places in the schedule. In this way, the scheduler can balance cost, emissions and robustness to optimize the schedule.
