Paul Groth
Professor of Data Science
Paul Groth is Professor of Data Science at the University of Amsterdam, where he leads the Intelligent Data Engineering Lab (indelab.org) and serves as Scientific Director of the university's Data Science Center. His research centers on building AI systems for dealing with large-scale, diverse, and contextualized data.
Paul co-directs two Innovation Center for Artificial Intelligence (ICAI) labs: the AI for Retail Lab (partnering with Ahold Delhaize) and the Discovery Lab (collaborating with Elsevier). He has led major data integration and knowledge graph projects in biomedicine and was instrumental in developing the W3C Provenance standard for data lineage - crucial for AI transparency and governance. Paul co-authored the FAIR data principles that underpin responsible AI development. As the co-founder of longform.ai and author of over 200 scientific papers, he combines deep technical expertise with a practical understanding of how organizations can harness data and AI effectively.
