Petra Heck

Associate Lector

Petra Heck studied computer science at Eindhoven University of Technology and holds a PhD from Delft University of Technology (Quality of Just-in-Time Requirements). She’s been working in IT since 2002 and as a lecturer in software engineering at Fontys UAS since 2012. In 2019, she started a postdoc research on the topic of AI engineering: “How to build production-ready AI systems?” In 2025, she is appointed Associate Professor “AI & Software Engineering”, which also includes research into “How to use AI to build production-ready systems?” Petra is part of the Fontys-wide Centre of Expertise AI for Society, involved in applied AI engineering projects, such as “Van sensoren naar zorg”.

AI4Data: What is an AI-augmented Data Engineer?

The successful applications of LLM-technology to automate all kinds of manual tasks are manyfold. This is what we call AI augmentation: human workers augmented with GenAI-technology. In this presentation, we zoom in on the AI augmentation of data engineering that can be achieved with existing tools and frameworks. We show examples of how they can be used in practice to optimize your data engineering workflow. We also discuss lessons learned from our own experiences and projects.
