Hij werkte bij KPN Research, het European Computer Industry Research Centre in München en Philips Research, waar hij Vice President was. Als voormalig CEO van EIT Digital in Brussel heeft hij veel ervaring in het opbouwen van Europese innovatie-ecosystemen. Daarnaast is hij deeltijdhoogleraar aan de Universiteit Twente.
