When I joined LabsData as its first data engineer, I had little experience building data platforms. My goal wasn't to create a platform—I simply wanted to stop solving the same problems over and over again.
Driven by a dislike for repetitive work and a passion for automation, I started abstracting common patterns, automating deployments, and building reusable components. Over time, those pragmatic decisions evolved into a modular, multi-tenant data platform that enabled us to deliver customer environments consistently, efficiently, and at scale.
At the same time, the platform shaped the way we worked as a team. It reduced operational overhead, accelerated onboarding, and allowed us to establish engineering practices that scaled alongside the company.
In this session, I'll share the journey from "just making things easier" to embracing platform engineering.
