Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS), most commonly known for train operations, has evolved into a complete mobility-as-a-service organization which caters to travelers' door-to-door journey needs. Inspired by the well-known train crowdedness indicators, we developed a similar solution for the final leg of the journey—forecasting the availability of OV-fiets bikes. Knowing beforehand how many bikes are expected to be available enables users to plan their trip with more certainty. In this talk we will describe the process of translating this business idea into a comprehensive MLOps product and share the valuable lessons we learned along the way. We will explore tips and tricks for collaborating with stakeholders, navigating the world of AI, and establishing an MLOps solution in production. We aim to demystify the process and offer invaluable practical insights that could benefit other Data Science teams that embark on this journey.
