The Data We Don’t Measure

Rianne van der Loo
Managing Director
We work in a world that values data, evidence and measurable results. But some of the things that have the biggest impact on performance are surprisingly difficult to capture in a dashboard.
Trust. The courage to disagree. The ability to really listen. Knowing when to take the lead and when to step back. Creating space for different perspectives. Making decisions when the data is incomplete. Changing your mind when someone else has a better answer.
Having started her career much closer to data and insights, Rianne now works primarily in leadership and commercial roles. Along the way, she discovered that the further she moved from analysing the data herself, the more interested she became in the human dynamics that determine whether insights actually lead to better decisions.
In this personal talk, Rianne explores the qualities we often label as ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ — and the behaviours we traditionally associate with masculine and feminine leadership. Not because one style belongs to men and the other to women, or because one is better than the other, but because effective leadership may depend on our ability to use the full spectrum.
In the context of Women@, she asks a broader question: what if creating more space for women in Data & Insights is not only about who gets a seat at the table, but also about which behaviours we value once they are there?
Because perhaps the most important data points in leadership are the ones we rarely measure.
